PV Cable Vs Cable Electric: 10 Advantages Of PV Cable You Didn't Know About Jul 20,2023

Ⅰ. What are PV cables?



PV cables are electrical conductors that connect the PV cells inside the solar panel to the rest of the solar power system. They carry the DC power generated by the solar panels to the inverters or batteries in the power station. The DC power is converted to AC power, which is used to charge appliances such as refrigerators, air conditioners, and electric grills. The characteristics of PV cables are determined by their cable-specific insulating and sheathing materials, which we call cross-linked PE. At the end of 2012, TUV Rheinland Germany launched a series of new standards with PV modules, DC 1.5KV single-core wire, and PV AC multi-core wire.


Ⅱ. PV cables vs common electric cables


A. What is the difference between PV  cables and common electric cables?

1. Different raw materials:

PV cables:

Conductor: copper conductor or tinned copper wire conductor

Insulation: irradiated cross-linked polyolefin insulation

Sheath: irradiated cross-linked polyolefin insulation



Ordinary electric cables :


Conductor: copper conductor

Insulation: PVC or cross-linked polyethylene insulation

Sheath: polyvinyl chloride (PVC) sheath



2. Processing differences


The outer jacket of PV cables is cross-linked and irradiated, whereas ordinary cable electric is generally not irradiated.

Generally do not undergo irradiation.

3. Different use environments

PV cables are generally used outdoors in harsh environments. And ordinary electric cable is commonly used for indoor laying, buried piping electrical equipment connection, etc.





B. What are the advantages of  PV cables?

1. Long life, with all the characteristics of general solar cable

The cable sheath of common electric cables has poor anti-ultraviolet performance, which can easily lead to the aging of the cable sheath, thus affecting the service life of the cable.

PV cables: insulation and jacket of special materials have extended the service life of the cables, and can be used at 90 degrees Celsius below 25 years.

2. High-temperature resistance, UV protection

Common electric cables are buried deep in the environment which is better, and the general resistance to high temperatures is poor than the ability of the solar cable.

And PV cables due to the role of environmental requirements therefore must withstand high temperatures, because they are often exposed to direct sunlight. High temperatures have several potential hazards, which damage the cable's service life and lead to greater safety accidents.




3. Professional fireproof certification: EN50575

6 2930 IEC/H1Z2Z2-K single core solar cable has EN50575 certification. We know that solar energy directly radiates heat energy out. The temperature is high, and the material is of poor quality, it is easy to spontaneous combustion, leading to safety hazards. The EN50575 standard is the harmonized mandatory certification standard for CE marking under the CPR regulation for power, control, communication, and fiber optic cables. Since July 1, 2017, the Construction Products Regulation (CPR), which regulates the free movement of products, requires all commercialized cables in the EU to have a performance declaration and CE marking. The harmonized standard EN 50575 (closely related to the CPR) specifies fire resistance properties. These properties are one of the few requirements for any cable used in long-term construction.

62930 IEC/H1Z2Z2-K single-core solar cable has AD7 waterproof certification for wet, dark, and damp locations. It represents that it belongs to the waterproof.




5. TÜV certified to IEC 62930 and EN 50618 for fixed and mobile solar installations (solar farms, rooftop solar installations, and floating power stations)

Purpose of the RETIE certification, which came into force in Colombia in 2005. RETIE is an acronym for the Technical Regulation of Electrical Installations, which aims to guarantee the safety of people, animals, and plants,  protect the environment and prevent, reduce, or eliminate electrical risks.
