Early Experiences and Career Choices
Defree was born into a rural family in Jiangsu, China. He grew up on a farm in the mountains of Qionghai, Hainan, and lived a simple yet resilient life. This experience cultivated his independence, strong will, and fearless qualities. In order to pursue better education and career development, he went to Wuxi to study international trade. After graduation, he worked in a cable factory, which allowed him to continuously learn and grow, accumulate valuable industry experience, and have a profound understanding of green energy.
Challenges and Opportunities of First Entrepreneurship
During his early career in the cable manufacturing industry, Defree developed a broader vision for the sector and founded SUNKEAN to provide photovoltaic solutions for overseas power plants. Despite early challenges such as limited funding and intense competition, he persevered through continuous learning and a customer-value-driven mindset, gradually gaining market recognition and building a solid customer base.In 2015, policy changes brought the company close to closure. Support from a new client enabled SUNKEAN to pivot into photovoltaic module trading, a move that stabilized operations and set the stage for future growth. In 2017, responding to market demand, SUNKEAN established its own wiring harness manufacturing facility, completing its transformation from a trading company into a manufacturing-driven enterprise.With strong industry insight and decisive leadership, Defree has continued to guide SUNKEAN’s evolution. In 2025, as AI technologies rapidly advanced and demand grew for stable energy infrastructure and high-speed signal transmission, he led the company into the AI connectivity sector. This “Energy + AI” dual-growth strategy builds on SUNKEAN’s deep energy expertise while positioning the company for the future of AI-driven connectivity.

Defree focuses on self-improvement and knowledge accumulation. He has completed the Public Relations program at Nanjing University and the EMBA program at Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business. These educational experiences not only enriched his knowledge system, but also enhanced his understanding of business management and market operations, and strengthened his entrepreneurial beliefs.
